KAMLOOPS — A Valemount man has been sentenced to prison time after being caught with a semi-automatic pistol while riding an electric scooter in Kamloops.

In a news release distributed Tuesday (Nov. 25), the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit (CFSEU) says the traffic stop took place on March 22, 2024. Members of the unit’s Uniform Gang Enforcement Team (UGET) noticed the scooter rider commit several traffic violations.

Upon searching the man, officers found:

  • A Girsan semi-automatic pistol
  • Six rounds of 9mm ammunition
  • A pistol magazine and holster
  • Illicit drugs
  • Cash

In October of last year, the BC Prosecution Service approved charges of unauthorized possession of a loaded restricted firearm and possession of a restricted firearm while prohibited against 48-year-old Christopher Fillingham.

Earlier this month, Fillingham pleaded guilty to the first charge in BC Supreme Court and was sentenced to three years behind bars. He is also subject to a lifetime firearms prohibition.

“This sentence reflects the seriousness of the offence and the ongoing work underway to disrupt violent criminal behaviour in our communities,” said Sgt. Sarbjit Sangha of CFSEU.
