KAMLOOPS — Kamloops Blazers forward JP Hurlbert has been named the WHL’s Player of the Week for the week ending Nov. 23.

Hurlbert, the reigning WHL player of the month, is the first repeat winner of the WHL’s weekly award this season. He was the WHL’s Player of the Week for the week ending Sept. 29, and was also the first Rookie of the Week award winner the week prior.

The 17-year-old Hurlbert had six points (four goals and two assists) in three games this week as the Blazers beat Tri-City 5-4 in overtime on Tuesday (Nov. 18), lost 7-4 to Portland Friday (Nov. 21) and then rebounded to beat Wenatchee 4-2 Saturday (Nov. 22).

Hurlbert scored two goals in the Blazers’ win over Tri-City and was named the game’s second star. He chipped in with two assists in the loss to Portland and then scored two more goals in the win over Wenatchee.

The 2026 NHL Draft eligible forward leads all Canadian Hockey League players in scoring with 44 points. Hurlbert is also in a three-way tie with Prince George’s Terik Parascak and Moose Jaw’s Lynden Lakovic for the WHL goalscoring lead with 18.

Next up for Hurlbert is a pair of games at this week’s CHL USA Prospects Challenge in Alberta. The Allen, Texas native will serve as an alternate captain for Team CHL during Tuesday’s (Nov. 25) game in Calgary.

Drafted by the Blazers in the 2023 WHL US Draft, Hurlbert was assigned an ‘A’ rating by NHL Central Scouting last month, indicating a potential first-round pick in the 2026 NHL Entry Draft.

The Blazers are in the midst of a five-game home stand at Sandman Centre. They’ll host the Spokane Chiefs this Friday (Nov. 28) and the Penticton Vees for the very first time the following night.
