WolfPack women win again in Kelowna, men swept by UBCO Heat

KELOWNA — The TRU WolfPack women’s volleyball team is returning home from Kelowna in first place in Canada West.

The WolfPack needed all five sets but they completed weekend sweep over the UBCO Heat with a 3-2 (25-13, 18-25, 14-25, 25-20, 15-10) win Saturday (Nov. 22) night.

TRU took the first set quite comfortably but dropped the next two, before they came back to wins sets four and five against the Heat.

Rida Erlalelitepe had a season-high 18 kills, while middles Maria Dancheva (10 kills and six blocks) and Myah Cressy (10 kills on just 13 attacks) were excellent as well. WolfPacl setter Libby Meldrum also recorded 47 assists and six blocks.

“Overall, I’m happy with tonight,” head coach Chad Grimm said. “We struggled to find our rhythm but credit the girls I think they found a way to turn it around in the fourth.”

The TRU women lead the Canada West conference with an 8-2 record, with Alberta (7-1) and Saskatchewan (7-3) in second and third place respectively.

In men’s action, TRU were swept 3-0 (21-25, 20-25, 19-25) to the nationally ranked UBC Okanagan Heat in Kelowna. Ranked seventh in U SPORTS, UBCO bounced back after TRU took them to five sets on Friday night.

Alex Howard led the way for the WolfPack with nine kills and 21 digs. Daniel Hitchens added another eight kills and three block assists while Lincoln Wagner had seven kills on just 16 attacks.

The WolfPack men are 2-8 on the season, while the Heat lead the conference at 9-1, two wins clear of Alberta, UBC, and Trinity Western.

The WolfPack will close out the first half of the 2025-26 season next weekend when they host the Manitoba Bisons at the TCC.
