KAMLOOPS — JP Hurlbert scored twice, while Ivans Kufterins made 29 saves as the Kamloops Blazers got back to winning ways with a 4-2 victory over the Wenatchee Wild at Sandman Centre Saturday (Nov. 22) night.

Isa Guram and Cooper Moore had the other goals for Kamloops as they took two of four points this weekend following Friday’s setback against the Portland Winterhawks.

Hurlbert scored the game’s first and last goal as he moved into a three-way tie for the WHL goalscoring lead with 18. The Allen, Texas native has 44 total points, and he’s been leading the league in overall scoring since the start of the season.

The Blazers led 2-0 after one period following Hurlbert’s opener and Guram’s fifth of the season, scored on the power play.

Wenatchee pulled one back through Blake Vanek in the second, before Cooper Moore’s third period power play goal restored the Blazers two goal lead with less than six minutes to play.

The Blazers appeared to be coasting to victory though a late Caelan Joudrey goal made for a few nervous moments at Sandman Centre. Hurlbert eased those fears with an empty netter with less than 90 seconds left on the clock.

Kufterins was named the game’s second star as he picked up his fourth career WHL win in 10 games. Wenatchee’s Tobias Tvrznik allowed three goals on 30 shots in a losing effort.

The Blazers improve to 11-10-2-2 which has them in fifth place in the WHL’s Western Conference. Wenatchee drops to 6-12-1-1 and they sit in last place in the overall standings.

The Blazers continue their five game home stand with a pair of games next weekend – against the Spokane Chiefs on Friday, Nov. 28 and the Penticton Vees for the very first time the following night.
