KELOWNA — A mixed bag of results for the TRU WolfPack volleyball teams in Kelowna Friday (Nov. 21) night.

The WolfPack women swept the UBC Okanagan Heat 3-0 (25-18, 25-19, 25-18) to improve to 7-2, which has them second in the conference standings.

Keira Gent led the way for TRU with nine kills and seven digs, while Hail Ward finished with eight kills on her 16 attacks. Maria Dancheva added eight kills and five block assists for the WolfPack who have won three in a row over the Heat.

“Generally we did a good job of putting service pressure on them and then we got them out of system in reception,” WolfPack head coach Chad Grimm said. “I thought our blocking defence did a good job earning points off of that. That helped us secure the victory.”

The WolfPack men dropped a five-set thriller 3-2 (25-22, 14-25, 25-19, 26-28, 11-15) to the first-place Heat. TRU was up 24-23 and 25-24 in the fourth set, but the Heat were able to fight off both of them and force the decisive fifth set, which they won.

That means the WolfPack fall to 2-7 on the season, while the Heat lead the conference at 8-1.

Veteran outside hitter Rylan Ibbetson had a game-high 16 kills for TRU. Alex Howard added 15 kills on just 28 attacks while Jordan Fulljames recorded ten. Walker Sodaro racked up 45 assists while Mason Sodaro had a team-high six blocks.

The WolfPack and Heat will rematch in Kelowna, with the men looking for the split at 4:30 p.m. and the women going for the sweep at 6:30 p.m.
