WolfPack basketball teams fall to Victoria as men finally taste defeat

KAMLOOPS — The TRU WolfPack men’s basketball have finally tasted defeat in the Canada West season.

The tenth-ranked WolfPack were beaten 71-58 by the Victoria Vikes in a highly-anticipated Friday (Nov. 21) meeting at the TCC. The Vikes are the reigning U SPORTS national champions, and they came into the game ranked third in the nation.

Jayden Green led the WolfPack with a team-high 14 points as well as three rebounds and three steals. Steve Stinson tallied ten points while both Jayden Stephens and Cason Scott finished the night with nine points.

Victoria led 33-27 at the half, and they pulled away in the third quarter as they poured in 23 points to TRU’s 12. While the WolfPack outscored the Vikes in the fourth quarter, 19-15, Victoria’s lead was too much for TRU to overcome.

The loss means the WolfPack fall to 7-1 on the season though they remain in first place in the Pacific Division. The Vikes improve to 6-2 and they sit in second place.

Over in women’s action, the WolfPack fought back but came up just short as they fell 50-42 to Victoria.

Rookie Micah Ramsey finished with a career-high 11 points to lead the WolfPack in scoring. Olena Vasylenko added nine points and nine rebounds for the home team, while Morgan Eichenberger had eight points and four rebounds.

The TRU women trailed 31-20 at the half, and while the outscored Victoria 22-19 in the second half, they could not complete the comeback at the TCC.

The WolfPack and Vikes will rematch at the TCC this evening, with the women’s game scheduled for 4:00 p.m. followed by the men at 6:00 p.m.
