Kamloops RCMP urging people to adopt daily 9 p.m. routine to prevent property crime

KAMLOOPS — Police in Kamloops are urging people to make the 9 p.m. routine a daily habit, as they note it can go long way to help prevent property crime.

With the darker days of fall and winter here, Kamloops RCMP say its Crime Prevention Liaisons and volunteers have been spreading awareness though Block Watch, community booths and at a number of public events.

The 9 p.m. routine is not a new initiative, and police note most property crimes are crimes of opportunity. They say by taking a few steps each night, people can make it harder for their homes and vehicles to get hit.

“We are encouraging people to get into the habit of locking-up, and turning lights on,” said Sandro Piroddi, Kamloops RCMP Crime Prevention Coordinator. “The 9 p.m. routine is a reminder to secure exterior doors, vehicles and to check your property.”
