Bell-ringers needed for Kamloops Salvation Army’s Kettle campaign

KAMLOOPS — The Kamloops Salvation Army’s annual Kettle campaign is underway, but the organization is still looking for bell-ringers to help collect donations.

Volunteers are needed at donation kettles around the city, now set up in malls and outside of retail stores until December 24. Major Orest Goyak with the local Salvation Army says the organization is ready to take volunteer sign-ups and get people scheduled in.

“We’re still short more than 400 shifts. That equates to 800 hours we’re missing on the shifts, so please give us a call and fill those shifts,” says Goyak.

This year’s fundraising campaign is aiming to reach $240,000. Money will be put toward local initiatives like the Salvation Army’s Tuesday meal truck that delivers meals to more than 200 people in five different neighbourhoods.

“It’s going toward buying the food. It’s going toward supporting that program and many other programs we have. We have the Breakfast Link program which happens on Thursday mornings, and it’s a wonderful hot meal for seniors and it’s a great support to the community. We have children’s programs, as well. We have after-school programs we support,” notes Goyak. “Even throughout the weeks, we are supporting our emergency food bank. So yeah, this money is stretched in all different directions throughout the year.”

The Salvation Army is also putting out a call for people to sign up as sponsors for its Adopt a Family program, which provides personalized gifts and other items to families in need over the Christmas season.
