Volunteers sought as 49th edition of Kamloops Seniors Light Tour scheduled for December 12

KAMLOOPS — The City of Kamloops says the 49th edition of the annual Seniors’ Light Tour will take place on Friday, Dec. 12 on the streets of Westsyde.

The free bus tour, which is meant for people over the age of 55, showcases some of the brightest holiday lights in Kamloops. Organized in partnership with BC Transit and Transdev, this year’s tour will run between 6:30 p.m. and 10:00 p.m.

“Residents and businesses along the tour route through the Westsyde neighbourhood are encouraged to participate by decorating with holiday lights,” a statement from the City of Kamloops said.

“Even small displays can help brighten the evening and spread seasonal cheer.”

City staff say following the tour, all participants will be taken to Sandman Centre for a festive celebration that will include hot beverages and holiday treats as well as live entertainment by the Kamloops Rube Band and the Kamloops Pride Choir.

“This event would not be possible without the generosity of everyone involved,” the city statement added. “[We] extend a heartfelt thank-you to the volunteers and transit drivers who dedicate their time to continue this long-running, successful and joyous event.”

People who register for the tour will be picked up from 20 locations across the city. Those who need handyDART service are asked to first register for the event and then schedule their handyDART transportation by calling 250-376-7525.

Registrations are due by end of day Dec. 4, and it can be done by phone at 250-828-3500 or online here.

Volunteers needed

In announcing the tour, the City of Kamloops also said it is looking for volunteers to assist at pickup and drop-off locations and to ride along the bus with participants.

A volunteer orientation will be held at the Kia Lounge in the Sandman Centre on Dec. 9 between 4:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.
