KAMLOOPS — The Festival of Trees has finally made its way to Kamloops for the first time in its 30-plus year existence in British Columbia.

The event at the Delta Hotel downtown is helping to raise funds for the BC Children’s Hospital Foundation by bringing together local businesses and organizations as well as community members. Those participants have decorated trees that will remain in the hotel lobby until Jan. 5, 2026.

Nikki Goodwin, the Director of Sales for the Delta Hotel By Marriott Kamloops, says some of the participants choose to decorate trees with their own themes, while others opted for a more traditional or classic theme. Others also decided to decorate trees in popular themes – like Harry Potter or Frozen – to try and appeal to the younger visitors.

Goodwin says people can stop by the hotel at 540 Victoria Street and vote for their favourite tree.

“All of the sponsorship, all of that money donated 100 per cent of it goes to the foundation at BC Children’s,” Goodwin said on CFJC Midday. “Below each of the trees is a QR code to vote and people can choose to donate to the hospital through that as well.”

Similar events are also being held in Victoria, Vancouver, Whistler, Sooke, and Kelowna, and all proceeds will support the priority needs of BC Children’s Hospital and Research Institute.

“The foundation uses it for the hospital’s most urgent needs, so whatever the hospital is really focusing their fundraising on this year,” Goodwin added. “The donations go directly to supporting children and their families who need the hospital’s care.”
