Workplace investigation report mailed to Kamloops mayor, turned over to attorney general ordered destroyed

KAMLOOPS — BC’s attorney general has won her bid to have a confidential workplace report received by Kamloops Mayor Reid Hamer-Jackson destroyed.

The City of Kamloops commissioned an investigation in 2023 after several staff members filed complaints about Hamer-Jackson’s behaviour in the workplace. The investigation was completed and the report was compiled by the Integrity Group and investigator Terry Honcharuk.

City council received the report in a closed meeting. Hamer-Jackson was not provided with a copy, according to a court filing from Attorney General Niki Sharma’s office, because his “behaviour forms the subject of the report.”

However in 2024, Hamer-Jackson found a copy of the report had been mailed to him. The mayor subsequently distributed copies to several members of the media.

In January of this year, Sharma’s office went to court demanding copies of the report be turned over “to make sure privacy laws are upheld.”

In BC Supreme Court Monday (Nov. 10), Justice Brad Smith ruled those copies could be destroyed.

Sharma’s office confirmed to CFJC Today the matter has concluded.
