KAMLOOPS — The latest crime impact report compiled by the Kamloops business community shows losses from crime have already exceeded $1 million this year.

The data is contained in the 2025 Impacts from Crime and Social Disruption Survey, released by the three local business improvement associations, the Kamloops and District Chamber of Commerce and the Scw̓én̓wen Economic Development Corporation.

The 130 business owners who responded to the survey said crime has directly cost them $1.2 million in 2025, up from just under $1 million last year.

In addition, business owners reported spending $793,000 on preventative measures to keep their businesses safe.

Seventy-four per cent of respondents said they had seen an increase in crime and social disorder in the past year, while the proportion of those who said the impacts to the safety of their staff have increased was also 74 per cent.

“This report isn’t just about statistics—it’s a reflection of the lived reality of hundreds of people who care deeply about Kamloops,” said North Shore Business Improvement Association Executive Director Jeremy Heighton. “Our businesses aren’t giving up. They’re asking for solutions that bring together compassion, accountability, and collective responsibility. The time for coordinated, sustained action is now.”

Further survey results included 60 per cent of respondents who said they had called City of Kamloops Community Services Officers (CSOs) for crime and safety issues in the past year, with 72 per cent of those saying the CSOs resolved the issue.

Eighty per cent of respondents said their customers have perceived an increase in safety concerns, while zero respondents reported their customers feeling the issue has improved in the past year.
