Westsyde residents want more proactive plans from city, as weekday hours set to resume at pool and fitness centre
KAMLOOPS — The Westsyde Pool and Fitness Centre is expected to reopen with regular weekday hours starting Monday (Nov. 17), ending an over two month long stretch of reduced weekday hours due to staffing issues.
The facility at 859 Bebek Road is scheduled to be open from 6:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. on weekdays, but a lack of staff has meant that since early September its only been open between 3:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. on weekdays.
Elisa Houchen, the president of the Westsyde Community Development Society (WCDS), said while they’re pleased that the facility will be reopening, they also want the City of Kamloops to be more proactive so these closures don’t happen again.
“It is used by a lot of our members, and not just the pool, but the gym,” Houchen said. “When there isn’t a lifeguard available, the gym is not available either.”
