KAMLOOPS — Ashcroft mayor Barbara Roden will carry on as the chair of the Thompson-Nicola Regional District’s (TNRD) Board of Directors.

Roden, who was first elected as TNRD chair in 2022, was acclaimed to the role Thursday (Nov. 6). She was nominated by TNRD Area ‘L’ Director Doug Haughton, and will serve as chair for the final year of the TNRD’s term with municipal elections set for next October.

“It’s an honour to lead the TNRD Board of Directors into the fourth and final year of this term,” Roden said. “We are facing challenges, but I know that the teamwork we have developed over the past three years will help us as we work to serve the people of this beautiful region.”

At Thursday’s inaugural meeting, Logan Lake mayor Robin Smith was also acclaimed as the TNRD’s vice-chair. Smith was nominated for the position by Clearwater mayor Merlin Blackwell, and has also been vice-chair since 2022.

“I’m very happy to be working with Vice-Chair Robin Smith and my fellow Directors to carry out our strategic plan and make the TNRD an even better place to live, work, and thrive,” added Roden.

Roden and Smith have served as TNRD chair and vice-chair since November 2022. Their election that year was historical as it was the first time since the TNRD was incorporated in 1967 that it had women in the role of as chair and vice-chair during the same term.

Roden has served on the TNRD Board since 2018, and Smith has served since 2013.
