‘Symbol of our shared commitment’; Barriere RCMP raise flag of Simpcw First Nation
BARRIERE, B.C. — Barriere RCMP and Simpcw First Nation commemorated their relationship with a flag raising last Friday (Oct. 29).
In 2024, Barriere RCMP say they received grant funding to raise a flagpole and prepare a meal for the Chu Chua community as a thank-you for continuous invitations to attend ceremonies, cultural events and meetings with elders and youth.
“Today’s flag raising is more than a formal gesture. It is a symbol of our shared commitment — to respect, to understanding and to the partnership that exists between the Simpcw First Nation and the RCMP,” SAID Cpl. Kyle Camalush. “The ceremony and the flag that we raise today represents unity, dignity and the path forward that we will walk together.”
Along with raising the Simpcw First Nation flag, Barriere RCMP say a new sign was created in consultation with the Chu Chua language house, chief, council and elders. In a news release issued Wednesday (Nov. 5), the Barriere detachment says the sign will be placed in the foyer at Barriere detachment.
