City of Merritt warns parents after nail found in Halloween chocolate

MERRITT, B.C. — The City of Merritt has issued a warning to parents after a piece of Halloween candy was found to contain a nail.

In a post to social media Monday (Nov. 3), the city asks parents and guardians to check to ensure the candy brought home by their children Friday was not tampered with.

The city says a local resident discovered a nail inserted into a piece of chocolate. The resident reported the incident to Merritt RCMP.

Similar reports came to police from residents in Prince George and Delta, as well from Chilliwack.

Officials are asking parents to inspect treats carefully, discard any candy that is unwrapped or altered, and report suspicious items to Merritt RCMP’s non-emergency number (250-378-4262).
