Suspicious fire sends North Shore family to hospital

KAMLOOPS — For the second time this month, a house fire on the North Shore has sent a family to hospital. In this case, RCMP believe the fire’s origin is suspicious.

Kamloops RCMP say officers supported Kamloops Fire Rescue as they worked to extinguish a structure fire on the 300-block of Alexander Avenue at around 11:15 p.m. Monday (Oct. 27).

In a news release issued Tuesday morning, RCMP didn’t specify how many members of the family were involved in the house fire or provide descriptions. However, police say they are expected to be released from hospital after escaping from the late-night fire.

“Preliminary evidence indicates that this fire is suspicious,” Cpl. Dana Napier, Kamloops RCMP spokesperson said. “Our General Investigation Support Team along with Kamloops Fire Rescue is looking into the exact cause and origin of the fire.”

Anyone who may have video of the area or saw anything suspicious around the time of the fire is asked to contact Kamloops RCMP at (250) 828-3000.

This is the second time this month a house fire has sent a North Shore family to hospital. On Oct. 18, a family escaped a fire at a home on Sitka Street. An online fundraiser noted the victims are still suffering health effects from the tragedy.
