KAMLOOPS — The City of Kamloops has released a few renderings that show what a renovated St. Andrew’s on the Square will look like.

Restoration work on the oldest public building in Kamloops is underway after it was damaged by a fire in May 2024.

“The goal [is to return] the building to its pre-damage condition while incorporating upgrades to improve accessibility, code compliance, and overall functionality,” a statement from the City of Kamloops said.

Earlier this year, City Council was told that the total price tag to restore and renovate the building was just over $1 million, and that about three-quarters of that total will be covered by insurance.

The contents of the building were not insured and while things like the pews and the piano were salvaged, other items like tables and chairs, decorative plants, audio equipment, and appliances were damaged by either fire or water.

According to the city, the upgrades were developed in close partnership with the Kamloops Heritage Engagement Group and Kamloops Heritage Society. It noted that was done to “seek a balance between respecting the building’s heritage while adding more modern amenities to meet community needs.”

“Upon completion in early 2026, St. Andrew’s on the Square will once again be available for public rental for use as a wedding chapel and multi-functional hall,” the city statement added.
