KAMLOOPS — Isa Guram scored the overtime winner to lead the Kamloops Blazers to a 5-4 comeback win over the Medicine Hat Tigers Friday (Oct. 24) night at Sandman Centre.

The Blazers trailed 4-2 midway through the third period but they were able to claw their way back in their first home game in nearly three weeks.

Guram’s fired first career overtime goal – and just his second career WHL goal – past Tigers goaltender Carter Casey at 2:56 of the extra frame.

Tommy Lafreniere struck in the final minute of regulation when he deflected a JP Hurlbert shot at 19:10 to force the extra period. Hurlbert finished with three assists as he added to his CHL-leading tally of 27 points from 12 games.

It was the Tigers who opened the scoring early in the second period through Tyson Moss, though Jordan Keller pulled the Blazers back with his sixth of the season at 7:39 of the period.

Medicine Hat was quick to answer back as Misha Volotovskii scored at 8:04 of the second and 8:17 of the third period to put the visitors up 3-1 in their fourth game of a six-game B.C. Division road trip.

One minute after Volotovskii’s second, newly acquired defenceman Kayd Ruedig jumped on a loose puck and fired home his first as a Blazer to cut the deficit to one.

The Tigers would not quit as Noah Davidson restored a two-goal cushion at 11:24 of the third that for a moment might have felt like a mountain too high to climb for the Blazers. But they would not be denied as Keller struck on a 5-on-3 powerplay with less than six minutes to play to begin the comeback.

Natham Behm also starred offensively as he chipped in with four assists as the Blazers improved to 6-5-0-1, good for sixth in the Western Conference. The Tigers are fourth in the Eastern Conference with an 8-4-1-0 record.

Blazers goaltender Logan Edmonstone stopped 26 of 30 shots to pick up the win. The Tigers’ Casey stopped 21 of 26 shots he faced.

Next up for the Blazers is a home game against the Vancouver Giants Saturday (Oct. 25) night, a 6 p.m. puck drop at Sandman Centre. The Blazers will also play the Giants on the road Sunday afternoon in their first three game weekend of the season.
