LYTTON, B.C. — Environment Canada has expanded a wind warning that was in place for the Cariboo to also include the Fraser Canyon.

The weather agency says places like Lytton and Lillooet can also expect wind gusts of up to 90 km/h overnight Thursday (Oct. 23).

“A vigorous frontal system is set to move down across the Fraser Canyon overnight, and will bring strong wind gusts to the region,” Environment Canada said. “Gusty winds are expected for much of the overnight period with peak wind gusts expected around midnight.”

“Winds will weaken before morning as the frontal system departs the area.”

Environment Canada is also warning of heavy rain and strong winds over south and central parts of the province. Rainfall warnings are in place for the northern and central coast and their inland sections, most of Vancouver Island and Howe Sound.

The province’s Ministry of Emergency Management says people should be prepared for possible power outages and localized flooding as a series of storms is expected to hit coastal areas starting Thursday.
