100 MILE HOUSE, B.C. — A man was arrested after a large amount of suspected stolen property, including guns from recent property crimes in 100 Mile House and Williams Lake, was recovered.

100 Mile House RCMP say they and Williams Lake Police Dog Service assisted the Cariboo Chilcotin Crime Reduction Unit with enforcement near Lac La Hache on Saturday (Oct. 18). In a news release issued Tuesday, RCMP say it came in response to a recent escalation of property crimes in the area.

A stolen red 1999 Ford F-350 pickup truck from Williams Lake was seen parked at a business. RCMP say officers boxed in the truck, but the driver struck a police cruiser and a building while attempting to escape.

The man was eventually arrested after attempting to run away. Police say a handgun and magazines were found on the man, and the remaining stolen property was seized after.

Police say Terrance Southern remains in custody for a bail hearing. He’s been charged with possessing a prohibited firearm with ammunition, possession of a firearm and ammunition contrary to a prohibition order, dangerous operation of a conveyance and possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.

RCMP say they are anticipating further charges for several additional offences. Police add they are continuing the investigation, which will include returning the stolen items to their rightful owners.
