Hospital district, Kamloops chamber concerned for broader community impact of medical access strain
KAMLOOPS — News of impending resignations at Royal Inland Hospital for seven OB-GYNs has garnered plenty of concern among the thousands of community members who use the tertiary hospital.
The Thompson Regional Hospital District (TRHD) says the changes are worrisome for those who need to travel to Kamloops for essential medical treatments. The Kamloops and District Chamber of Commerce, meantime, has also added its voice to the calls for a solution, noting what happens at the hospital could negatively impact the economic health of the region.
Officials with the Kamloops Chamber of Commerce had already planned to speak up about healthcare concerns they’d heard from membership, and then came the resignation of obstetrics-gynecology physicians at Royal Inland Hospital. The organization issued a news release this week outlining its concerns about the state of healthcare support, and the pressure it could put on residents and the local economy.
