KAMLOOPS — A twist of fate in the Kamloops Blazers’ six-game Prairie road trip.

After erasing a 5-1 deficit to win 7-5 in Moose Jaw on Wednesday (Oct. 15) night, the Blazers blew a lead of their own Thursday (Oct. 16). Kamloops was up 3-1 but they eventually fell 6-3 to the Brandon Wheat Kings.

JP Hurlbert put home a backdoor pass from Josh Evaschesen to score his WHL-leading 11th goal just past the seven minute mark. After a turnover and drop pass, Tommy Lafreniere fired home a wrist shot from the top of the slot to make it 2-0 Blazers.

The Wheat Kings cut the deficit to 2-1 with a power play goal late in the first period, although the Blazers would get that back in the second with a power play goal of their own. From the slot, Evaschesen finished a feed from Nathan Behm off the rush to restore the Blazers’ two-goal lead at 7:06 of the middle frame.

From there, it was all Wheat Kings. The Blazers surrendered three goals, two on the power play, to close out the second period as they fell behind 4-3. The Wheat Kings finished a perfect three-for-three on the power play.

Brandon then scored 38 seconds into the third period to suppress any Blazers comeback attempt. The home side added one more goal in a period where they outshot the Blazers 15-6 to secure the 6-3 win.

The Blazers fall to 5-5-0 on the 2025-26 WHL season, good for 10 points in 10 games. They’re fourth in the B.C. Division and sixth in the Western Conference.

They’ll aim to end their Prairie road trip on a winning note Saturday (Oct. 18) in Swift Current against the Broncos. Kamloops returns home Friday, Oct. 24, to host the Medicine Hat Tigers.

Puck drop is at 7:00 p.m. from Sandman Centre.
