KAMLOOPS — Six unanswered goals in Moose Jaw have helped the Kamloops Blazers turn their six-game Prairie road trip around.

Following a pair of losses in Prince Albert and Saskatoon and a win in Regina, the Kamloops Blazers came back from a 5-1 deficit to defeat the Moose Jaw Warriors 7-5 Wednesday (Oct. 15).

The Blazers surrendered the first four goals of the game before Josh Evaschesen scored his first career Western Hockey League (WHL) goal after firing a wrist shot from between the hashmarks.

However, the Warriors scored their fifth goal on the power play, restoring their four-goal lead.

Evaschesen would drag the Blazers back into the fight late in the second period. The 19-year-old forward, who arrived from the British Columbia Hockey League, put home his second goal of the game on the power play by pouncing on a rebound in the crease.

The Blazers kept momentum early in the third period. Cooper Moore deflected Evan Markel’s shot from the point and Tommy Lafreniere’s wrist shot from the right circle on the power play found its way through as the Blazers cut the deficit to 5-4.

Halfway through the third, Nathan Behm tipped in J.P. Hulbert’s pass to even the game 5-5.

Hurlbert then completed the comeback with a shot from the right circle late in the third period. His WHL-leading 10th goal of the 2025-26 season made it 6-5, before Lafreniere added the empty netter with a little over a minute to play.

Blazers goaltender Ivans Kufterins, who came on in relief of Logan Edmonstone, made 10 saves in relief to pick up the win.

The Blazers improve to 5-4-0 on the 2025-26 WHL season, good for 10 points in nine games. They’re fourth in the B.C. Division but fifth in the Western Conference.

They continue their road trip Thursday (Oct. 16) in Manitoba when they visit the Brandon Wheat Kings. They’ll close out the six-game road trip in Swift Current on Saturday (Oct. 18).

The Blazers next home game at Sandman Centre is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 24, against the Medicine Hat Tigers.
