Operation Red Nose seeking volunteers ahead of 2025 campaign in Kamloops

KAMLOOPS — Operation Red Nose is preparing for its 29th season of operations in Kamloops this upcoming holiday season.

While there is a little over a month to go, Coordinator Lucas Sweet says they’re looking for volunteers to sign up to operate the safe ride home service. Volunteer positions include designated drivers, escort drivers, navigators and phone operators.

“The thing with our service is that the more volunteers we have, the more rides we can give,” Sweet said, on CFJC Midday. “If you are wanting to be a part, you can.”

“We have volunteers who do almost every night and we have volunteers who do one night. It doesn’t matter, because if you’re able to come for one night, that’s one night of rides that you’re able to help out with.”

As is the case, Operation Red Nose will be available on Fridays and Saturdays between Nov. 28 and Dec. 27, as well as of New Year’s Eve.

“We usually find the week before Christmas and the middle of December – that December 10 to 15 – is the busiest,” Sweet said. “New Year’s Eve is always busy and its always hard to get volunteers that day. This year also our Friday falls on Boxing Day so we anticipate that will be a busy day as well.”

“We always like to tell people if you and a couple of friends or family members who want to volunteer together, you can. But if you don’t have a group, we’ll put you with some other people as well.”

Operation Red Nose is by donation and proceeds go to support PacificSport Interior BC.

Once the service has launched, you can call 250-372-5110 to book a ride. For information and details outside of the operational period, 250-320-0650.
