SUN PEAKS, B.C. — While opening day is still a little over a month away, officials at Sun Peaks Resort are anticipating a busy 2025-26 ski season as they tout a number of new features and “industry-leading advancements.”

The upcoming ski season, which is scheduled to run from Nov. 22 until April 6, 2026, will feature a first-of-its-kind snow farming and storage system to “help ensure reliable early-season alpine ski training in Sun Peaks.”

Tourism Sun Peaks says the resort has successfully stockpiled 14,000 cubic metres of snow this summer, which will help support the early opening of the Nancy Greene International Race Centre.

Resort officials say the new technology will also save 1.5 million gallons on water, which can be used in other “critical” snowmaking areas.

Sun Peaks Resort is also touting a recently launched, multi-year upgrade which features a fleet of high-efficiency snow guns, state-of-the-art automation, and smart weather stations. It says that investment “turbocharges” its capacity to make snow so that people “can count on pristine runs and perfect corduroy from opening day until spring.

“This winter marks another significant season for Tourism Sun Peaks,” said Naomi Kerchinsky, the Executive Director of Tourism Sun Peaks. “Our ongoing commitment to delivering exceptional visitor experiences positions Sun Peaks as a leading mountain destination.”

“With the resort’s new initiatives supporting reliable snow conditions and enhancing visitor experiences, we’re inviting everyone to explore, play, and create unforgettable memories in our mountain community this winter.”

While Sun Peaks Resort does not release its visitation data, it previously told CFJC Today that the 2024-25 ski season was “record-setting.” It included the most skier visits in a season, surpassing the previous mark set in 2022-2023.

The resort also reported a fairly busy summer season this year in part because of a favourable wildfire season. Resort officials note this winter could be busy as some Canadian and international visitors avoid the U.S. because of ongoing political tensions.

Also new this winter is Moose’s Cabin, the third of four planned on-mountain kids zones at Sun Peaks. It will be located on Tod Mountain, and it joins the already open Grouse’s Nest on Mount Morrisey and Bears’ Liar on Sundance Mountain.

A fourth kids zone – Fox’s Den on Orient Mountain – is slated to complete the series in winter 2026-27.

“From legendary terrain and a lively, alpine village filled with locally-inspired dining to an exciting calendar of events, Sun Peaks Resort delivers the most complete winter destination in the region,” Kechinsky added. “The adventure doesn’t stop with world-class skiing and snowboarding.”

“Guests can explore Nordic trails, snowshoe through tranquil forests, slide down the tubing hill, glide across the ice-skating rink, and cap every day with unforgettable après-ski moments.”
