REGINA, SK — Tommy Lafreniere scored the overtime winner to lift the Kamloops Blazers to a 4-3 win over the Regina Pats in a Thanksgiving Monday (Oct. 13) matinee game.

Lafreniere’s second goal of the game – a powerplay marker at 2:12 of the extra frame – gave the Blazers their first win on their East Division road trip.

Forward JP Hurlbert – who assisted on all four goals – and goaltender Logan Edmonstone picked up the assists.

The Blazers were up 2-0 early in the second thanks to Nathan Behm’s first period goal and Lafreniere’s first of the night in the first minute of the middle frame.

But the Pats – who sit in the basement of the WHL standings with just one win – found a way to take the lead at the Brandt Centre.

Julien Maze scored in the second to halve the Blazers’ lead before third period goals from Zachary Lansard and Caden Brown put Regina in front with less than 10 minutes to play.

Jordan Keller restored parity on the scoreboard at 18:21 of the third period to force overtime. The Blazers then snapped a four game losing streak as Lafreniere scored with the only shot in overtime.

Edmonstone, who was named the game’s second star, finished with 33 saves on 36 shots. Regina’s Kelton Pyne stopped 28 of 32 shots in a losing effort.

Next up for the Blazers are games Wednesday (Oct. 15) in Moose Jaw and Thursday (Oct. 16) in Brandon. They’ll close out the six-game road trip in Swift Current on Saturday (Oct. 18).

The Blazers next home game at Sandman Centre is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 24, against the Medicine Hat Tigers.
