BC Wildfire Service readies prescribed burns in Siwash area west of Williams Lake

ALEXIS CREEK, B.C. — The BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) is preparing for a pair of prescribed burns west of Williams Lake.

The burns could begin as soon as Tuesday (Oct. 14) near the community of Yunisit’in and southwest of Alexis Creek, in the Siwash area.

BCWS plans to burn a total of 220 hectares, split into to treatment areas.

Smoke and flames from the prescribed burn will likely be visible to nearby communities and to people travelling along Highway 20.

The burn project is slated to wrap up by Oct. 24, but progress will depend on favourable weather conditions.
