COLLINS: On climate change, even the Pope’s on board

IN HIS SHORT TIME as the leader of the Catholic church, Pope Leo has not shied away from offering his viewpoint on several critical issues. He has talked about the move by the president and his army of thugs to deport immigrants to other countries as part of Trump’s apparent white supremacy plans.

This week, the Pope continued to press forward on another matter that he is greatly concerned about — protecting the earth from impending disaster as climate change starts to create problems. The world’s most ignorant fool, one Donald Trump, would have you believe climate change is the most incredible hoax ever, despite all the evidence to the contrary. Trump continues to press an agenda fraught with lies and untruths. He has torn apart much of the research into climate change by firing employees, downsizing research efforts and telling the populace suffering from drought, melting ice flows and increases in violent storms, that all is well. America, one of the hardest-hit areas in the world from tropical storms and mass destruction, is now literally without the eyes and ears to see disaster coming.

Ten years ago, Pope Francis talked about the need for people around the world to protect our common home. A bold statement that caused some consternation in the church. Pope Leo, however, has brought the Catholic church even more into the political realm. Keeping a religious slant to his message this week, stating the need for us to “protect God’s creation” there is little doubt that the statement was intended for a much wider audience.

Whether you believe Earth naturally evolved, or is indeed God’s creation, the message is the same for all — pull your weight and help save the planet or listen to Donald Trump, who continues to carry out his plan of destruction through his sheer ignorance of the facts.
