DETROIT — It took just two games for Emmitt Finnie to record a point in the National Hockey League.

The Kamloops Blazers forward picked up a secondary assist in the Detroit Red Wings 6-3 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs Saturday (Oct. 11) afternoon at Little Caesar’s Arena.

The Lethbridge native, who began the season on the Red Wings’ top line, was involved in the play as Lucas Raymond put Dylan Larkin’s cross-slot pass into an open net to tie the game at 2-2 in the second period.

While Toronto tied things up at 3-3 early in the third period, the Red Wings scored three unanswered goals to record their first win of the NHL season. Finnie finished with two shots and a plus two rating in 13:46 of ice time.

Following the end of the 2024-25 WHL season, Finnie joined the Grand Rapids Griffins and tallied one goal and five points in 10 AHL games. He went scoreless in three AHL playoff games.

A seventh round pick of the Red Wings in the 2023 NHL draft, Finnie, 20, is eligible to return to the Blazers for his overage WHL season. He’s also eligible to play full time in the American Hockey League this season.
