KAMLOOPS — A big win for the TRU WolfPack men’s soccer team as they got by the UBCO Heat 2-1 in Canada West soccer action at Hillside Stadium Friday (Oct. 10) night.

Jaise Shaw opened the scoring for the Heat with the only goal of the first half but goals from Matheus Lucas and Lachlan Will less than two minutes apart ensured the WolfPack came away with the win.

Lucas scored his first Canada West goal in the 71st minute as he headed in a corner kick to tie things up at 1-1. Just over a minute later, Will scored a long-range effort that stood as the game winner.

“We will take a win any way we can get it. The second half was definitely a lot better, we scored some goals but there were some easy ones we missed,” WolfPack head coach John Antulov said.

“It was a good battle, both ways that’s a typical UBCO vs. TRU rivalry game. It doesn’t matter where you are in the standings it’s going to be a battle.”

The WolfPack are now 2-10-1 and while they’re in sixth place in the Canada West Pacific Division, they remain in a hunt for a playoff berth with three games left to play.

TRU and UBCO will rematch at 5:30 p.m. this evening.

“We talked about needing to get forward and start attacking a little bit more and just trying to create shots on goal because we haven’t been doing a lot of that, so it was nice to see some goals finally go in,” Antulov added.

“Now we just have to hopefully try and carry this over to [Saturday].”

The 5-7 WolfPack women are off this weekend and both teams will conclude the regular season next weekend. The TRU women are hosting UBCO while the men host Trinity Western and Fraser Valley.
