TNRD lifts evacuation alert near ‘unauthorized’ Fadear Lake dam
KAMLOOPS — The Thompson-Nicola Regional District (TNRD) has lifted an evacuation alert that was put in place because an unauthorized dam north of Kamloops was at risk of failing.
The evacuation alert covered 14 properties in the area of Fadear Creek Road in Electoral Area “O” (Lower North Thompson). It was issued on Monday (Oct. 6) and on Thursday (Oct. 9) evening, the TNRD said water was flowing freely through the man-made Fadear Lake dam.
“Should conditions change, an Evacuation Alert and/ or an Evacuation Order will be reinstated as necessary,” the TNRD said in a statement Friday (Oct. 10) evening.
The TNRD declared a state of local emergency in Electoral Area “O” on Wednesday (Oct. 8) to enable it to take action to mitigate the risks at the dam site.
