PRINCE ALBERT, SK — The Kamloops Blazers are in a bit of a slump as they’ve now lost three consecutive games in the Western Hockey League.

Friday night in Prince Albert, the Blazers began their six-game East Division road trip with a 5-2 defeat against the Raiders at the Art Hauser Centre.

The Blazers, who began the season with three wins on the trot, started on the back foot as the Raiders raced to a 3-0 lead. Kamloops native Evan Smith, Justice Christensen, and Max Heise struck to put Prince Albert up inside the first five minutes.

Nathan Behm pulled one back for the Blazers just before the midway point of the period to make it a 3-1 affair after 20 minutes.

Prince Albert’s Riley Boychuk and Kamloops’ Owen Cooper traded second period goals before Jackson Kostiuk iced the game with an empty netter late in the third period.

Blazers rookie phenom JP Hurlbert assisted on both goals to remain the league leader in points (16) and goals (nine).

Ivans Kufterins was pulled after Prince Albert’s third goal. The Latvian netminder stopped three of six shots he faced in 4:50 of action. Logan Edmonstone allowed a goal on 28 shots in 54:02 of relief work.

Prince Albert’s Dimitri Fortin picked up the win with 20 saves on 22 shots.

It’s quick turnaround for the Blazers as they prepare to face the Saskatoon Blades at SaskTel Centre this evening. Puck drop is set for 6:00 p.m.
