Kamloops on pace for fewest drug-related deaths since 2019
KAMLOOPS — New numbers released by the province show the pace of deaths attributed to drug toxicity has slowed dramatically in Kamloops this year.
The BC Coroners Service released drug toxicity death totals for July and August Thursday (Oct. 9). They show eight more fatalities in Kamloops during those two months for a total of 38 through the first two-thirds of the year.
If Kamloops continues on that pace, it would see 57 drug toxicity deaths by the end of the year. That would be the city’s lowest year-end total since 2019.
Province-wide, there were 153 and 149 deaths due to toxic drugs in July and August, respectively. That brings the year-to-date total to 1,218 in British Columbia.
