KAMLOOPS – On Wednesday (Oct. 8), the remaining BC Liquor and Cannabis stores joined picket lines across the province, including those in Kamloops.

This is the sixth week of job action from the BC General Employees Union (BCGEU).

“Over 25,000 members of the civil service in the BCGEU are on picket lines, joined by our colleagues in the Professional Employees Association. We have a very simple message to the government: come back to the table to negotiate a fair deal. Today’s escalation it’s significant, but something that we waited until the sixth week of the strike to do,” BCGEU President Paul Finch says.

This latest job action follows a march outside the legislature earlier in the week that included thousands of BCGEU members.

“We certainly hope the government decides to get back to the table soon. We had over 10,000 striking members and supporters in front of the legislature at the opening. A variety of public and private sector union leaders were in attendance, who echoed that message,” Finch says.

The union says it still has reluctant cards to play if the government does not come back to the table soon.
