KAMLOOPS — Farms and ranches within the Thompson-Nicola Regional (TNRD) have easier access to recycling their bale wrap and silage bags and covers.

The TNRD and Clearnfarms — an organization that recycles agricultural and related industry packaging, plastics and products — launched a pilot program that will run until December 2028.

In a news release issued Wednesday (Oct. 8), the TNRD says the agricultural plastics recycling pilot program is being funded by a four-year, $134,500 commitment from the district. It will provide select farms and ranches with compactors to make recycling bale wraps and silage bags and covers easier.

“We are excited to see the impact of these compactors in the Thompson-Nicola region. This initiative makes it significantly easier and more efficient for our farmers and ranchers to store and transport bulky materials for recycling,” Adriana Mailloux, TNRD manager of solid waste and recycling, says.
