KAMLOOPS – Recently, the Royal Inland Hospital Foundation released its 2024-25 annual report, which highlights the funds raised by the organization, community stories and recruitment efforts. The foundation distributed $7.5-million in projects while also welcoming hundreds of new staff members.

“The Royal Inland Hospital administration has done an amazing job recruiting nurses and allied health professionals to Kamloops. We know nurses have taken on new lines and some of the floors are fully staffed,” said RIH Foundation CEO Heidi Coleman. “Where the foundation can help would be by providing scholarships or conferences that they need to go to. We’re happy to help. That really does help attract health professionals and the foundation is there to support these teams of people.”

Other numbers highlighted in the report included the five Royal Inland Hospital housing units donated to the foundation and 64 medical professionals housed during the year.

“In terms of doctors, we work very closely with Interior Health recruitment,” said Coleman. “We are able to say, ‘Well, if you moved to Kamloops, we can give you six months free in a condo or even a year, because we’ve had some incredible donors donate a house for us downtown and a condo, and we do rent a few others.’ That might be the carrot on the stick that helps that doctor decide why Kamloops instead of another hospital.”

The foundation hosted a variety of events over the year, none bigger than the B-100 Radiothon. The event raised $650,673 in just 12 hours. That’s a new record with the funds going towards new projects this year.

“The foundation has been asked to fund quite a few projects this upcoming year,” stated Coleman. “We have a $3-million pledge to the hybrid (operating room) and that will help our vascular surgeons. We’re also helping to upgrade our MRI, which we’re investing about $1.5 million to upgrade it. We’re also funding some brand new equipment for cancer surgery, wo we’re busy and we’re out there fundraising for it.”
