CLINTON, B.C. — A First Nation north of the Village of Clinton and the B.C. government signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to review mining activity in the area.

On Sept. 10, Llenllenéy’ten (High Bar) First Nation says its Kúkpi7 and council met with senior leadership at B.C.’s Ministry of Mining and Critical Minerals to lay the foundation for long-term cooperation, reinforcing shared commitments to environmental protection, community well-being and responsible resource development.

In a news release issued Wednesday (Oct. 8), High Bar First Nation says the MOU creates a dedicated joint working group between itself and the ministry, allowing them to pursue solutions that align economic development with sustainability and Secwepemc cultural values.

“This agreement represents a significant step forward in ensuring that mining within HBFN territory is carried out in a way that respects our lands, resources, and community priorities,” Kúkpi7 Jamie Fletcher says. “Through this MOU, we are building a relationship that acknowledges our stewardship responsibilities while fostering sustainable economic opportunities.”
