SALMON ARM, B.C. — A prescribed burn north of Shuswap Lake could begin as early as Wednesday (Oct. 8).

The BC Wildfire Service says it will support BC Timber Sales in carrying out a prescribed burn of 54 hectares east of Seymour Arm.

In a news release issued Monday, the wildfire service says smoke may be visible from Seymour Arm and surrounding areas and linger in the following days. It says the timing of the burn is dependent on site and weather conditions.

The wildfire service says the goals of the prescribed burn include removing forest fuels to reduce long-term wildfire risk and helping restore forest health and a properly functioning ecosystem.
