14 properties north of Sun Peaks at risk of flooding from failing Fadear Lake dam: TNRD
KAMLOOPS — The Thompson Nicola Regional District (TNRD) has issued an evacuation alert for 14 properties north of Sun Peaks because a failing dam has put them in danger of flooding.
In an alert issued Monday evening (Oct. 6), the TNRD says it has been informed by the provincial Ministry of Water, Lands and Resource Stewardship an ‘unauthorized dam structure’ on Fadear Lake is showing signs of weakness. The ministry says the dam “is at risk of imminent failure, which could result in an uncontrolled release of water from the lake into Fadear Creek.”
The district is telling owners of 14 properties in the area of Fadear Creek Road to prepare to leave on very short notice.
Residents are advised to stay in close contact with all occupants of these properties, to pack essential items and to make arrangements for pets and livestock.
