Heat forward Shiva Singh named KIJHL rookie of the week

CHASE, B.C. — Chase Heat forward Shiva Singh has been named the KIJHL’s rookie of the week for the week ending Sept. 28.

The 18-year-old Surrey native scored twice and added four assists in two games as the Heat beat the Sicamous Eagles 6-5 in overtime on Friday (Sept. 26) and the Fernie Ghostriders 6-3 on Saturday (Sept. 27).

With nine points from four games, Singh leads all rookie skaters in points. He’s also tied for the league lead in assists with seven.

“He’s a player that has really good instincts and also walks a fine line trying things,” Heat head coach-general manager Nick Deschenes said.

“There is a bit of a risk element to his game, but he manages that pretty well. He goes to hard areas, he’s good at keeping puck possession and has great vision, so those things allow him to create more and he’s been rewarded for that.”

The Heat are off this weekend, but they’ll play three road games next weekend. They’ll play in Castlegar on Oct. 10, Spokane on Oct. 11, and Fruitvale on Oct. 12.
