Roadblock in place after collision, fuel spill on Ord Road; hazmat team responding

UPDATE (12:10 p.m.): One person is dead following the collision on Ord Road.

Cpl. Dana Napier, Kamloops RCMP spokesperson, confirmed the fatality in an update Wednesday afternoon. She adds the transit bus was not in service and no passengers were aboard.

The stretch of Ord Road remains blocked off to the public as police investigate the cause of the crash. Napier says Kamloops Fire Rescue is on scene to clean up the fuel spill.

EARLIER: KAMLOOPS — A busy intersection in North Kamloops has been blocked off as crews respond to a collision and fuel spill.

A call for a collision between a semi-truck and a bus on the 900-block of Ord Road came at around 10:50 a.m. Wednesday (Oct. 1).

In a news release, Kamloops RCMP confirm the collision was between a fuel truck and a transit bus. Crews have blocked off the roadway between Westsyde Road at Eighth Street and Ord Road at Singh Street.

Dispatchers over the scanner said emergency health services personnel were prevented from arriving at the scene of the collision due to fuel being spilled.

The hazmat team and B.C.’s Ministry of Environment have been called in.

There is no word on injuries in the collision.
