KAMLOOPS — After a hot start to the season, a pair of Kamloops Blazers are being honoured by the Western Hockey League.

Rookie forward J.P. Hurlbert has been named the league’s Player of the Week. Hurlbert notched six points in the Blazers’ two home games against the Seattle Thunderbirds, both victories.

The Allen, Texas-born Hurlbert leads the league with six goals and nine points in three games. He was named the league’s Rookie of the Week for the week prior after launching his WHL career with a hat trick against Spokane.

Backstopping the Blazers to victory in Saturday’s (Sept. 27) win over Seattle was Logan Edmonstone, who was named the league’s Goaltender of the Week.

The Saskatoon-born Edmonstone stopped all 38 shots thrown at him by the Thunderbirds for his first WHL shutout in the 6-0 win.

Kamloops is getting set for a pair of games this weekend — on the road in Seattle on Friday (Oct. 3), then back at Sandman Centre to host the Portland Winterhawks on Saturday.
