Hurlbert hat trick earns Blazers forward WHL Rookie of the Week honours

KAMLOOPS — Kamloops Blazers forward J.P. Hurlbert’s hot start has caught the attention of the Western Hockey League.

The WHL announced Hurlbert won the league’s first Rookie of the Week award for the 2025-26 season.

The Allen, Texas-born winger scored a hat trick in his season debut Saturday (Sept. 20) as the Blazers defeated the visiting Spokane Chiefs, 6-4.

The 17-year-old Hurlbert mirrored his preseason debut, when he also tallied three goals. He finished the preseason with six goals in three games.
