Hamer-Jackson, Neustaeter set to return to court Monday
KAMLOOPS — Kamloops Mayor Reid Hamer-Jackson, and councillor Katie Neustaeter are scheduled to be back in a Kamloops Court room on Monday (Sept 22) following an adjournment in their defamation case.
The adjournment was granted by in July, after Hamer-Jackson was finally able to secure representation from lawyer Jody Wells. Prior to the delay the court was set to hear an application from Neustaeter to dismiss the case against her.
The case, brought by Hamer-Jackson alleges four instances of defamation by Neustaeter, three were statements made to council in emails between council and staff, and the fourth was a statement made on behalf of council back in 2023 in response to proposed changes to the committee structure at city hall.
While Hamer-Jackson was given the adjournment, Justice Hughes did rule that the mayor would be required to cover costs.
