Makeshift weapon used in robbery of Merritt Dollar Tree: RCMP

MERRITT, B.C. — RCMP in Merritt are asking for the public’s help identifying the man who robbed a local store at knifepoint last weekend.

Just before 6:00 p.m. last Saturday (Sept. 13), the culprit, described as a slender man, walked into the Dollar Tree store at 2102 Quilchena Avenue. RCMP were told he was carrying “a knife on a broom handle.”

After getting money from the cashier, the man ran out of the store and fled eastbound on Quilchena Avenue.

While police responded promptly and surrounded the area, they could not locate the suspect or any of his belongings.

Suspect clothing description:

  • Baseball cap featuring a skull wearing a soldier’s helmet
  • Dark navy hoodie
  • Green gloves
  • Blue jeans
  • Carrying a backpack on his back and a blue bag in his hands

“The public are the eyes and ears of our community,” said Cst. Blake Chursinoff in a release. “If you were in the area of the Dollar Tree on Saturday evening around 6pm and happen to have dashcam, or structure CCTV footage we would really like to get that information from you.”

“Additionally, if anyone happened to see this suspect, or recognizes anything about this suspect to give us a phone call.”
