KAMLOOPS — Police are looking into the report of a suspicious man in a pickup truck approaching a young person on the Kamloops North Shore last week.

Just after 2:00 p.m. on Sept. 9, Kamloops RCMP say they were told that the young person was walking to McArthur Island when a man in a black truck asked them to get in his vehicle. Police say the child reported the incident to an adult they trusted.

The age and gender identity of the young person was not provided in a news release issued Thursday (Sept. 18).

Kamloops RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Dana Napier says the truck was described as a newer, clean black Dodge Ram with a tree-shaped air freshener hanging from the rear-view mirror. The driver is described as a balding white man in his early 50’s with dark grey hair. Napier says a license plate wasn’t seen.

“As we work to advance this investigation, we would like to encourage the public to review general street safety: be aware of your surroundings, walk with a partner when possible, don’t engage with people you don’t know to be safe and have discussions about what to do if you are approached,” Napier says.

Anyone with surveillance or dash cam video that may help identify the truck or its driver is asked to contact Kamloops RCMP at 250-828-3000 as soon as possible.
