KAMLOOPS — Smoke is expected to be highly visible from the Yellowhead Highway near McLure and surrounding communities north of Kamloops Wednesday (Sept. 17).

The BC Wildfire Service says the Stuart Lake wildfire burning near Jamieson Creek grew to three hectares since being discovered Tuesday night.

Eliza Balkwill, a fire information officer with the wildfire service, told CFJC Today that 25 personnel are on site and being supported by heavy equipment, helicopters and water tenders. She adds that crews and heavy equipment worked on the Stuart Lake wildfire throughout the night.

According to Balkwill, crews are reporting Rank 2 fire behaviour on the Stuart Lake wildfire, meaning it’s a low vigour surface fire with a low rate of spread. The fire is suspected to be human-caused.
