Blazers release D Gugyelka, reassign G Kabrud

KAMLOOPS — The Kamloops Blazers are saying goodbye to another veteran prior to the start of the 2025-26 Western Hockey League regular season.

The team announced Wednesday (Sept. 17) it has released 18-year-old defenceman Jager Gugyelka.

From Coaldale, Alberta, Gugyelka was acquired from the Edmonton Oil Kings on December 28, 2024 in a deal for defenceman Niko Tsakumis.

He went on to play 23 games for the Blazers, picking up one goal and one assist.

Gugyelka has tallied five points in his 51-game WHL career with Edmonton and Kamloops.

The Blazers also announced forward John Szabo has cleared waivers and 17-year-old goaltender Madex Kabrud has been reassigned.
