BARRIERE, B.C. — Canadian National (CN) Rail will begin work to replace a portion of its railroad track in Barriere on Tuesday (Sept. 16) this week.

In a notice to residents, the District of Barriere said crews will be working on the railroad track crossing on Hall Road.

“This work is necessary to maintain the safe movement of trains and vehicles through our community,” the notice said. “Hall Road will therefore be closed during the project duration to facilitate the crossing replacement, and a detour will be put in place.”

Crews will be working between 5:30 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. and they’re expected to be done work by this Thursday (Sept. 18).

“During the construction dates, the existing crossing will be closed to all vehicle and pedestrian traffic. A temporary crossing and detour route will be provided and clearly marked with signage,” the notice added.

“Access to the west side of the rail tracks will be located behind the Esso Gas Station.”

Emergency vehicles will still be able to access the houses near the work zone. Residents and business owners are also being told to be mindful of noise and construction activity in the work zone.

“We appreciate your patience and cooperation as CN Rail completes this important infrastructure upgrade,” the notice added.
